~Two Visionaries:  Defending The Legacy Of The COGIC

And The C. H. Mason Historical Society

Presentation Of Award By The President And Founder

Of CHMHS ~ Elder Norvell V. Woolfolk

{Above} Left To Right:  Bishop Chandler David Owens & Bishop Christopher C. Owens

We regretfully announce the passing of Bishop Chandler David Owens (March 6, 2011),

General Board Member And Former Presiding Bishop Of The C. O. G. I. C.

It was Bishop Chandler David Owens who stated that:

"Our younger generations need to know the rich legacy bequeathed to them

by the pioneers of the Church Of God In Christ."

Under the leadership of our Founder, Bishop Charles Harrison Mason,

the COGIC has been at the forefront of the Holiness/Pentecostal movement which began

in the twentieth century;  For over a hundred years, the impact of COGIC'S influence has

had a resounding effect on many denominations;  Our doctrine, our music,

our zeal, and even our traditions have been imitated

and embraced by other denominations from 1897 until the present

(The 19th Through The 21st Centuries).

Bishop Chandler David Owens {Earlier Years}

As Presiding Bishop Of The Church Of God In Christ, in 1998,

Bishop Chandler David Owens Launched a new department within the

COGIC Denomination:  Bishop Chandler Owens Instituted

The C. H. Mason Historical Society as a new department (CHMHS).

Elder Norvell V. Woolfolk

was the founder of this organization (1996), and was appointed as

The International President of the foundation (1998).

Bishop Chandler Owens, along with

his dear friend, Bishop Christopher C. Owens, shared many ideas, as well as good

times together;  They both shared the  sentiments that COGIC'S presence has been well

established throughout this nation as well as in foreign territories, but in spite of

this impressive record of steadfastness in our faith, much of our history and heritage

has remained dormant and ignored by the body of Christ;  It is imperative that

we realize that many of our youth, as well as many adults,

still know very little about our glorious past.

We will miss the presence and the contagious smiles of both

Bishop Chandler David Owens, and Bishop Christopher C. Owens

as seen below (Center):  This was the 21st Anniversary and the 14th Annual Awards

Banquet of the Religious Workers Guild, Inc., held at the Ramada Inn, in

downtown Memphis, Tennessee, November 1980.  Bishop Chandler Owens,

General Board Member of the Church Of God In Christ, Inc., was the

guest speaker at the affair.  A portion of the proceeds from this event, as with each of

the Religious Workers Guild's celebrations, was donated to

"Saints Center".

And The Infectious Laughter Of Bishop Chandler David Owens

And Bishop Christopher C. Owens Was Non-Stop

As You Can See For Yourself Below!!

And The Happy Laughter Continued!!

By virtue of the fact that the calling of

"The Bishop Christopher C. Owens Memorial Foundation"

is well defined and must be aggressively pursued, in our approach to

completely align with the mandate of Christ, we are endeavoring to keep

meticulous records of our COGIC History and to pass it along to

succeeding generations!  We have a brief article on this web page

concerning the Matriarchy and Patriarchy Forces which have impacted

our COGIC organization from 1897 through the present.

The Foundation has also included an extensive history of the COGIC and its

many pioneers on the "Historic Reflections" and "Missions"

 pages respectively on this website.

Please read the articles on this "Newsletter Gems Page", and later surf to all of

our web pages including Our "Salvation" and "Bible/Church Trivia" web pages!

Let Us Not Allow The Legacies And Visionary Ideas Of

Bishop Chandler David Owens And

Bishop Christopher C. Owens Fade Into Non-Existence.

Since They Were Such Great Friends And

Shared So Many Special Events, Ideas And Strategies

(As I Was Emphatically Reminded By Bishop Chandler D. Owens

Personally In A Long Distance Phone Conversation

After The Death of Bishop

Christopher C. Owens), Let's Make A Concerted Effort To

Let The World Know Who We Really Are, And Make

The World Aware Of The Notable Contributions

Made To Our People, Our Nation And Our World

By Our Fearless Pioneers;

Let's Not Allow The Thousands Of Heroes And Heroines

Of Our Faith Become Virtually Anonymous. These Two

Faithful Visionaries Were Both Emblematic Of

Not Only The COGIC Organization's Mission To Save The World,

But They Were Challenging Forces

Prepared To Honor, And To Encompass And To Synergistically

Or Collaboratively Achieve The Desired Effect Of

Making Known And Available The History, The Customs And

The Traditions Of Our Faithful Saints.

Let's Keep Our Glorious Past, The Embodiment Of Christ, And

The C. H. Mason Historical Society Alive!!

The C. H. Mason Historical Society (CHMHS)

Below:  Elder Norvell V. Woolfolk,

President & Founder Of CHMHS

{8/23/1928 ~ 10/07/2009}

He was born in Madison, Il (8/23/1928)

where he became a noted musician, and had the

distinction of playing for Bishop C. H. Mason, Bishop & Mother Bostic,

and even accompanied the famous Clara Ward Singers.  He held a

Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Howard University of Washington D. C.

and a Master of Science degree in School Administration from Southern Illinois

University.  He spent more than thirty years as a teacher in the high

schools of Madison, IL, St. Louis, MO, and Chicago, IL.

His love for history and the COGIC gave birth to the

C. H. Mason Educational Foundation

under Presiding Bishop J. O. Patterson, Sr., in 1969. He later reorganized the

C. H. Mason Historical Society Under the late Bishop Chandler D. Owens (1996 &

appointed as the national President of the organization in 1998).

He received reappointments by the late

Bishop G. E. Patterson and again by Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake.

The purpose of the society is to honor the memory of the founder

of the Church Of God In Christ, and great pioneers of the church

by documenting and preserving the historical impact of the denomination,

while celebrating the legacy of holiness.

Since Elder Norvell V. Woolfolk is now deceased, Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr.

has appointed Pastor Mack C. Mason of Chicago, Illinois,

the grandson of the late Illinois Prelate, Bishop J. O. Mason as

President of CHMHS.  The newly appointed President {2011}desires to have CHMHS

Chapters in every Jurisdiction, and hopes to garner the assistance of

young people everywhere to help catapult our collective history into the 21st century.

2011 marks the 50th Anniversary of Bishop Charles Harrison Mason's death.

"Never Borrow Sorrow From Tomorrow"

Composed By The Late Bishop Christopher C. Owens

Edited & Submitted By:  Sis. Christine Owens-Jones

Never borrow sorrow from tomorrow

Deal only with the present

Never step into tomorrow

For God asks us just to trust Him

And to never borrow sorrow

For the future is not ours to know

And it may never be

So let us live and give our best

And give it lavishly

For to meet tomorrow's troubles

Before they are even ours

Is trying to anticipate the Savior

And doubting His "all-wise" powers

So let us be content to solve

Our problems one by one

Asking nothing of tomorrow

Except, "Thy Will be Done"!

Many Of Our Website Viewers, Who Were Familiar With

Our Classic Signature Photo, Made Inquiries And Apprised

The Foundation's Web Master Of The Photo's Presence

On The National Programs;

In The Interest Of Full Disclosure, We Were Quite

Discombobulated Concerning The Unauthorized Use Of This

Signature Photo.  However, After Deep Thought And Prayerful

Analysis Of The Church Of God In Christ's Graphic Teams'

Infraction Of Failing To Request Permission For The Use Of

This Photo, The Web Administrator Of

The Bishop Christopher C. Owens Memorial Foundation

Thought That It Would Have Been

Somewhat Presumptuous Of Us To Conclude Or Assume

That This Group Was Oblivious To What Is Right Or Honorable.

With That Being Said, We Therefore

Decided That It Had To Have Been A Mistake,

And We Therefore  Committed Ourselves

To Excuse And Forgive The Unscrupulous Activity

Exemplified By COGIC'S Graphic Group.

The Foundation Is Aware Of The Fact That This Photo

Is Quite Loveable, Candid, Extremely Unique And

Is A Historically Rare Document!

After Conversing With

Elder Derric Adkins, An Avid

Admirer OF Our Website, And A Talented COGIC Graphic Artist,

We Were Assured By Elder Derric Adkins,

That This Image Escaped His Over-Site, And That He

Deeply Regretted That There Was No Prior Permission,

And Apologized For This Mistake Which Was Caused

By One Of The Graphic Teams, And That It Was

No Error On His Behalf.

Elder Adkins Also Emphasized The Fact That There Was

No Disrespect Intended From The COGIC

IT Department Or Its Graphic Teams;

Again, This Was Simply A Mistake.

To Our Inquiring Viewing Audience Who Saw

The Programs, We Serve Notice That

We Are Satisfied With The COGIC'S Graphic Group's Response.

The Mistake Has Been Overlooked, Pardoned And Forgiven.

 The COGIC Program Committee And

Graphic Teams Have Been Exonerated!

~Focusing On The History

Of Our Grand Ole' Church Of God In Christ

THE PATRIARCHY & MATRIARCHY FORCES

Influencing The Exponential Growth OF THE COGIC

{SCRAPBOOK ARCHIVES OF BISHOP C. C. OWENS}

Below (Left to Right):  Bishop W. M. Roberts,

Bishop C. H. Mason, Founder and Senior Bishop of The Church of God in Christ,

Bishop O. T. Jones, Sr.

{The scope of this BRIEF article is merely to emphasize the importance

of the History of our Grand Ole' Church of God in Christ,

and to apprise you of the fact that you may peruse our extensive

history of the COGIC, as well as an extensive history of all

of the Supervisors of the Women's Department of the Church of God in Christ respectively

on the "Historic Reflections" and the "Mission" pages of this website.}

*******

As the Late Bishop Chandler D. Owens once stated, "our younger generations need

to know the rich legacy bequeathed to them by the pioneers of

the Church Of God In Christ."

The charismatic leadership and organizational genius of Bishop C. H. Mason,

the founder of the COGIC, was stamped indelibly on every aspect

of the church's life and witness.  Because of the fact that Bishop

Mason pursued the values of prophetic black Christianity to an extent reached

by few other historical figures, the Church of God in Christ experienced

exponential growth, in spite of the fact that COGIC's base in Memphis, TN

was, for the most part, out of sight of the mainstream of

American and African - American social, political and religious culture.

By clicking on this picture you will surf to the Missions web page or continue to scroll downward

Bishop Mason stressed great optimism about the power of God to

transform and transcend sinfulness.

The watershed Azusa Street revival that launched the twentieth century

Pentecostal movement accentuated Bishop Mason's belief of the

necessity of possessing the Pentecostal baptism of the Holy Spirit,

according to Acts 2:1-4.

According to Cornel West, the COGIC "generated a strenuous mood, a call

for heroic, courageous moral action and biblically motivated focus on and concern

for the wretched of the earth."

As seen below, even at the 50th Golden Anniversary of the Church of God in Christ,

the church's strategy for maintaining, as well as increasing

its exponential growth, involved intense and

vigorous planning in addition to fasting, praying and supplication!

Bishop J. O. Patterson, Sr., Bishop L. H. Ford, Bishop Shipman, and others are seen

preparing for the 50th Anniversary of the COGIC.

Bishop Mason took Mark 16:15 - 18 as providing both the basic paradigm of the church and its

mission statement.  The COGIC embraced a biblical spirituality that allows

God's delivering act in history to penetrate all levels of human existence.

The Holy Ghost and a prayer life inevitably affects health, integration of personality,

moral drive, character, radiance and hopefulness.

Of course, appreciating religious workers accomplishments,

and rendering honor and

encouragement by such organizations as the Religious Workers Guild

within the auspices of the the COGIC, coupled with

God's anointing and Holy inspiration, were inevitably highly responsible

for maintaining this renewed moral drive, radiance and hopefulness.

There was spiritual vitality and a highly forceful holy boldness and

aspiring self-esteem propelled within the saints church arena!

Pioneers Who Became Prominent Bishops Within

The Church Of God In Christ

Below, These Young preachers (Many of Which Were, At The Time, Elders),

Became Prominent Bishops Within The COGIC

Some Of These Young Men Are Now Deceased -  Some Of Them

Are Currently General Board Members Of The Church Of God In Christ

As Of 2010

Back Row From Left: Third Left - Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake;

Fifth Left: - First Assistant, Bishop P. A. Brooks

(For All Of Their Names, Refer To the Historic Reflections Web Page)

The central doctrine of the denomination, which was holiness, was embodied,

codified and institutionalized by the Women's Department of the COGIC.

Modeled after motherhood, the Women's Department enabled the male episcopate

to function as a social "fatherly" leadership, while matriarchy functioned as

the biblical leadership.

In other words, despite the male episcopates roll in the COGIC as "head"

of the church, the COGIC church mothers are the teachers, enforcers, models,

and re-definers of holiness beliefs in the COGIC through organizations and

participation in the sanctified life.

Our women were full of holy boldness, starting missions and churches

by preaching in chicken coups and traveling miles across

the states evangelizing while a dear husband remained home with the mission

(Mother Lizzie Robinson), or starting various missions in areas where there were

no churches of God in Christ, and renting properties

with their own monies and later contacting senior Bishop Mason to delegate

a preacher to uproot his family from one state to another to take over the missions,

(Mother Lillian Brooks Coffey, and many others), or standing on street corners,

singing and playing a guitar compelling lost souls

to come to Christ (Mother Bailey).

Mother Emma Cotton, one of the original members of the Azusa Street Mission,

was one of the women who was responsible for having

Bishop C. H. Mason send E. R. Driver from Memphis, TN to start

the first C. O. G. I. C. in the state of California (Los Angeles, CA);  She

also founded churches in Bakersfield, Fresno, and Oakland California;

You may find out more about E. R. Driver, and the important role he

played within the COGIC on the History Reflections Page Of this website.

So, for the greater percentage of time,

it was the Matriarchy of the church who launched out into the unknown

and founded churches where none existed and were responsible for later

requesting pastors (the Patriarchy), with the discretion of Bishop Mason,

to be sent to run the respective missions, thus promoting the

exponential growth of the Church Of God In Christ.

This is what I meant when I stated that

history usually looks upon the Black church as patriarchal in structure, but black women,

with the help of black men, have created an enclave of pseudo-patriarchy within the black

church.  Reality of gender space in the black church historically and currently, is dominated

by black women, with black men as support!

The most effective department within the Church of God in Christ has been, and

is yet, the Women's Department.  Although the most prominent names associated

with the development of the denomination are male, members are aware

of the pivotal role played by such women as Mother Lizzie Robinson,

Mother Emma Crouch, Mother Lillian Brooks Coffey, and Dr. Arenia C. Mallory,

former president of Saints Industrial and Literary School that became Saints

Junior College in Lexington, Mississippi.  Cheryl Townsend-Gilkes, in her

impressive work on the Church of God in Christ, says:  "Mason recruited

educated women to work in the building of the denomination and the

educational ministries.  These women developed a "women's work"

that became known as the "women's department".  It was the women who

migrated to the cities who carried the movement to urban areas,

preaching revivals, "digging out" new works, and then writing home for a pastor."

The impact of Dr. Arenia C. Mallory (1926 - 1977) upon an entire generation

of post-World War II church leaders is a powerful and impressive story.

One of her prized pupils was Louis Henry Ford, a young man from

Clarksdale, Mississippi, who became Presiding Bishop of the COGIC

denomination in 1990.

The Matriarchy and the Patriarchy forces have worked together to achieve

the mission of Mark 16:15 - 18:  Which provides both the basic paradigm

and the mission statement of the Church Of God In Christ!

"Go Into All The World And Preach The Gospel"

Bishop C. H. Mason traveled extensively during his tenure as senior Bishop

of The Church Of God In Christ.  Many of these trips were made

during the latter forties and early fifties.  Wherever he went, the anointing

of the Holy Ghost was mightily upon him as he preached the liberating

gospel.  Thousands were saved and healed.  Traveling with the Bishop

on most of his crusades were his wife (Sister Elsie Mason), Msny. Dorothy

Webster Exume (his interpreter), and Bishop Iglehart of Waco, Texas.

Below:  Bishop C. H. Mason, Sis. Elsie Mason (his wife),

Msny. Dorothy Webster Exume, & Bishop T. D. Iglehart

Below:  Dorothy Webster Exume;

In addition to being a missionary to Haiti, in recent years,

she was a member of the board of directors for the Charles Harrison Mason

Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia, and she served as an advisor

to the president, Dr. Oliver Hainey;  In addition to these major commitments,

she found time to involve herself in her local church, the Greater Community

COGIC, where the late Bishop Chandler David Owens was Pastor.

Born August 10, 1922 - Died January 4, 2011

Below:  Bishop Mason And Party, Boarding Plane For Trip To Foreign Work

As previously stated, as a result of Bishop Mason's extensive travels,

his foreign mission initiatives, the matriarchy forces,

and the dedicated efforts of many other

church patriarchs and pioneers,

the COGIC experienced exponential growth.

Below:  The Dedicated Matriarchy Forces Of The Black Church

In particular, two church mothers spearheaded much of the women's ministry

in the early days of the COGIC.  Between 1911 and1945, Mother Lizzie Robinson

and Mother Lillian B. Coffey helped establish new churches and stabilized

essential areas of church work;

Mother Lillian Brooks Coffey was the strong force or supporter behind

Dr. Mallory, helping her to raise funds from sources outside of the COGIC

arena to keep the Saints Industrial Academy open, when the Patriarchy of

the church were discouraged and ready to close

the doors of the school for lack of funds. These two women, almost single

handedly, with insignificant support from the COGIC

organization, kept that school open

(Read the segments on Mother Lillian Brooks Coffey and Dr. Mallory)!

Click on us to surf to the top or continue to scroll downward

Even before the civil rights movement was fully underway, Mother Coffey led the

Women's Department in passing a racial justice resolution in 1953 that called

for cooperation with all organizations seeking justice, equality and integration.

Despite racist threats, the Women's Convention helped to desegregate Albany, New York

hotels during the turbulent 1960's!

More on this subject matter of Patriarchy and Matriarchy evangelistic efforts will be found

under the respective titles for each of these bold supervisors, evangelists, holy ghost

filled preachers, and others

on the respective "Historic Reflections"

and the "Mission" pages of this website.

Below:  From The Scrapbook Archives  Of Bishop C. C. Owens

The women of our grand church, from its inception, have made remarkable

contributions to its growth and development.  Their faithfulness to prayer meetings,

their diligence in bible study, their sacrificial fasting, and their

untiring fund raising, and all of their service endeavors tied into a knot,

have been performed superbly.  They, along with the male factors of our

church, have created an enclave which through the course of our church's

history, has brought about miracles which seemed to have "twisted wind and

tied water" - as the elderly folks used to say!

The Women's Department was able to establish liaisons with social, political,

and educational agencies that raised the status of both members and

the COGIC denomination from the margin to the mainstream of

African American life.

The many outstanding feats accomplished by the forefathers of our great church

will certainly include the labors of love rendered by the women

in the great arena of Christian Stewardship, for the women and church mothers

didn't just sit on the front pew;  They were, and still are, formidable,

invaluable resources in the growth, and foundation and organizational structure

of COGIC's denomination!  The preacher equals the star, and the church

mother is equivalent to the stage manager.

2} Listen To God's Visionaries:

As God's Ambassadors Impart God's Initiatives

And Kingdom Agendas, Let Us Honor, Receive

And Implement God's Plans

The two visionaries in the foreground of the photo above,

(Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake and The Late Bishop C. C. Owens),

have through the years exemplified great leadership abilities,

great imaginations for promoting God's ministries and programs,

and great stewardship.  By virtue of the fact that hard hats

symbolize a hedge of strength and protection, both visionaries have

demonstrated hard hat tenacity and stamina in breaking through

obstacles and implementing initiatives for which God had commissioned

them to endorse and sponsor for the purpose of successfully matriculating

His Kingdom Agenda!  In particular, our Presiding Bishop

Charles E. Blake has invested as much of

his time, talents, and hard hat vigor and imagination into creating

the previously mentioned C. O. G. I. C. charitable initiatives as

faithfully and energetically as he has popularly been known

to incorporate or invest into the development of his personal or local

multi-million dollar church edifice, along with dynamic church ministries,

technological and family oriented feats for which only a great

visionary is capable of accomplishing!

Let's help these initiatives to soar to unimaginable heights

of success and implementation while subscribing

to our 2010 C. O. G. I. C. National Church Theme:

"Great God, Great Visions, Great Accomplishments"

And, of course, while we're discussing contributions and good

stewardship, always feel free to generously donate to The

initiatives of The Presiding Bishop of the Church Of God

In Christ:  Bishop Charles E. Blake.

initiatives which provides direct support and care to orphans

and vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS, poverty and war

throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean.

with two checks totaling more than $40,000 during

Bishop Ted Thomas' 25th  Silver Anniversary Celebration

After receiving a thunderous applause from the audience, Bishop Thomas

stood before the packed banquet hall of the Chesapeake

~5} There Is Turmoil In The Land

As we follow the star, as suggested in one of Bishop T. D. Jakes' popular

books, we will find Jesus, the worthy lamb who died to free us from the

bondage of sin;  As a lion, Jesus said:  "All power is given to me

that is in heaven and in earth."  As King Of Kings, "I'll give you power

to walk in this life in the fullness of what the lamb purchased for you."

He is your lamb and He is your lion; He is your

perfect provision for all you shall ever need.  Praise the Lord that

Jehovah Jireh saw ahead, and made provision.

He gave you Himself!

We pray for our families, our friends and children during these trying times.

Yes, there is economic turmoil in the land, and people are

losing jobs, losing homes, having cars repossessed, losing their

health -- having no insurance, and as a result, are fearful

of their future status and security as it pertains to their livelihood.

People are fearful of "Wall Street", bank closures,

home foreclosures and the like;  God's people are being abused with usury

from banks and loan associations, and must face the realization that

even in the worst case scenarios, we should not allow

ourselves to become a stuck fixture within the fear factors of

the world's systems stimulus plans.  We cannot rise above the poverty

level by allowing ourselves to become victims of

the usury tactics of the world's stimulus plans!

As saints of God, we must place our losses into perspective and

accept the fact that God is yet in control over our finances.  We

don't need the world's mortgage melt-downs and credit crunches

in order to survive economic turmoil, for we are diametrically opposed

and mutually exclusive to the world's stimulus plans.  As

people of God's Kingdom, we must realize that we must rise

above the pestilences and deprivations of the land by adhering to

God's built-in stimulus package.  God said in II Chronicles 7:14, that

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves,

and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways;  then

will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Click on us to surf to the top or continue to scroll downward

The world's systems are trying to meet our needs, to the best

of their knowledge, but only God can give us more than enough!

He is El Shaddai!  He is the mighty one who can overrule

natural events.  He will change natural circumstances and give you

supernatural miracles.  When God plagued the land with

pestilences to cause Pharaoh to let His people go, the Egyptians

were affected by the plagues while the children of Israel, who

were over in Goshen in His will, were not at all affected. God had allowed a

hedge of protection to surround His people. God's stimulus

package surrounds the saints in our dispensation to receive the

same powerful protection.  As T. D. Jakes says:  "Favor Ain't Fair"!

The silver and gold is His;  The cattle upon

a thousand hills is His;  God's stimulus package, which was created

more than two thousand years ago at Calvary, will break the back

of poverty, will produce all manner of healings and miracles, will

include a Kingdom economy which will transfer the wealth of the wicked to

the righteous, and will lift up standards against satan when the

enemy comes in like a flood.

Don't forget that Jesus took two little fish and five barley loaves

of bread and fed five thousand men--this number did not include the

women and children which were in the midst--and remember,

there were 12 baskets of food left over, not to mention the fact that Jesus

said that He would also heal these multitudes of people!  Again, God

is El Shaddai;  He can bless us with more than enough!

Let's not forget that according to II Corinthians 8, that God's grace

is equivalent to God exerting His influence in our businesses.

In the midst of affliction and poverty, the saints were capable of

rising above their lack and short comings by giving an offering to God.

Read II Corinthians 8, 9, 10, 11.  Their lack was not overcome

merely by having a prayer meeting, but by giving an offering to God.

You are in warfare when you are giving an offering to God.  You will

reap the harvest if you have been sowing in the ministry;  Every

stronghold will come down!  So then, knowledge and wisdom from

the word of God will serve as the stability to the saints of our

dispensation of grace.  To be redundant, God's stimulus package does not

deal with mortgage melt-downs and recession crunches!  For example,

consider the story of Job.  Job lost everything

he had;  He lost his children, health, possessions, and money.  But Job

maintained that God is all sufficient, and that God is more than

enough.  God instructed Job's friends (who incorrectly assumed that

Job must have done something wrong -- they were Eliphaz,

Bildad and Zopher) to give Job 7 bullocks and 7 rams and to

also make burnt offerings for themselves in order to seek God's

forgiveness for themselves for their incorrect assumptions.

Digressing, this example, which God made of Job's friends,

should serve as a model or lesson for those persons involved with

recent issues within my life who made incorrect assumptions --

assumptions which were totally based upon incorrect (hater)

information given to them by others!  And said persons never

bothered to check the validity of the hater information, and

subsequently made some unalterable remarks, moves, and mistakes --

never attempting to give vent to their mistakes and

never bothering to apologize to me nor to ask God for forgiveness

for themselves.  They were caught up in pride and in their own arrogance

and had no remorse for the wrong they had viciously committed.

Please take this lesson to heart for yourselves.  But jumping back to the

story of Job, he took his friends gifts and sacrificed all 7 bullocks and

all 7 rams on the altar before God as a sacrificial offering, and as a result,

Job regained everything he had lost twice over.  Read these

scriptures to validate the grace of El Shaddai ("The All Sufficient One"):

Ephesians 3:19-21; Genesis 48:4; John 15:2, 16.

Finally, according to Exodus 23, Deut. 16, I Corinthians 5:8, God said:  If

you live from Passover, To Pentecost, To Atonement and stand

before me with an offering, I will:

1) Dispatch an angel and miracles at your house.

2) Be (God Will Be) an adversary to your adversaries.

3) Supply you with bread and water and will give you power to get wealth.

4) Take sickness out of the midst of your house (Ex. 23).

5) With the devil constantly trying to take us out, God said

that you cannot die before your time.

6) Dispatch an inheritance into your life;  God is waiting to give

you increase;  money you don't even know about, and wells

we don't have to dig.

7) Whatever the devil stole from you, this will be the season

to get it back;  Take God at His word;  God's stimulus plan will

include miracles involving every aspect of your life:  family, finance,

marriages, etc.

Consider when Paul and Silas were in the midst of their storm,

when they sang, prayed and trusted God, even when they

could not trace His presence, they were loosed -- their

chains were broken.  Stand before God with an offering, along

with praise and prayer and allow God's stimulus package to deliver

you from your darkest storms during this economy crisis.

Remember, if you decree a thing, God will establish it.  Please

make your vow today to the Lord and be blessed. God is our Jehovah

Jireh (our provider);  He already knows what you will encounter in

your life, and He already has a provision for you to handle it, just

as He provided Abraham with a ram in the thicket when Abraham

was about to sacrifice his son Isaac.

~6} Faith Or Fear?

Remember, in relation to our current economic trend, " That Fear

Tolerated Is Faith Contaminated!!"  Allow your faith (your seed

for your harvest) TO BE EMBEDDED WITH A VISION OF

RECEIVING WHEN YOU HAVE BEEN PETITIONING!

For while praying to God, Know who you are in Christ -- Having

peace with your circumstances, and by ceasing to allow satan

to stifle your joy.

You may function in your God given gifts, and live abundantly in

Applying Kingdom Principles.  The Joy Of The Lord Is Our

~Bonded Music Workshops For

Pastor's, Ministers Of Music, And Worship Leaders

Grammy award-winning producer Kevin Bond is actually familiar

with the malady of discontent that rears its ugly head in

ministries as a direct result of the lack of congruity

between the Pastor and the Music Minister.

To that end, in addition to his production assignments, Bond now devotes

much of his time traveling the country sharing his heart to Pastors

and music ministry leaders.  His workshops are intense, thorough, and

replete with solid spiritual principles by which all ministries create

their organizational structure.

The success of any ministry depends heavily upon the ability of gifted

individuals to function interdependently as a potpourri of unified

saints.  Incidentally, a healthy "relationship" among these ministry

leaders is critical towards growing a wholesome body of

believers.  One of the most important of all these relationships is

the one that exists between the Pastor and the Minister Of Music

or the Worship Leader.  Unfortunately, this relationship is frequently

one of the most widely neglected.  Conflicting personal agendas and

varying circumstances too often serve as a chasm between the two

parties, thereby circumventing the adequate cultivation of their relationships.

Remember, Growth Is Optional, But Change Is Inevitable!

As a former Minister Of Music myself, I can certainly identify

with the truth of Mr. Bonds discussion of healthy relationships, for

as I reflect into the past, I realize that many times Pastors

don't exercise the respect, compassion, nor common courtesy as

it pertains to their hired servants -- especially in situations where, God

forbid, a Pastor might feel somewhat intimidated by the expertise

of another individuals gifting, whether it pertains to an

excellent talent for playing an instrument or a superior gift for

being well versed or having excellent communication skills.  In

my experiences, I've found that, regardless of the genders involved,

there are, more often than not, player haters with somewhat inferior

complexes or resentments -- These feelings should not be

existent among the saints!  But these ugly issues often appear.

I can remember situations when special musicians would have

been hired for special services, and special rehearsals would have

been arranged (which excluded the regular musician - without

explanation - without rendering notification or a courtesy heads-up

to the current musician);  There were occasions when that specially

hired musician was a "NO-SHOW", making it necessary for the

regular musician to step up to the plate and to be instantly

prepared to play unfamiliar choir selections for which the musician

was not privileged to have rehearsed.  Moreover, not knowing

the unfamiliar tunes, coupled with not knowing which keys had

been assigned for which specified selection or leader singing

the particular selection (creating range & pitch issues), tripled

with the fact that the musician was neither given a heads-up on

whether or not a given selection was to be modulated chromatically

by either half steps or modulated by whole steps -- (meanwhile, the

musician is silently thinking "could someone please give me the

title of the selection? --It just might help me out"), the whole ordeal

was totally quite depressing!  Meanwhile, the choir was humbly looking up

towards the confused and disappointed musician to save them

from such an embarrassing dilemma.!  In reality, such stress and

drama could have been avoided altogether.  Any information

which involves or pertains to the church Minister of Music

and/or musician such as:  "your services will not be required

or needed for a particular service" or "we are hiring a special

musician to play for our revival service" or "you will no

longer be over the youth choir in a Minister of Music capacity nor

in a musicianship or training capacity (when you've held the position

for almost 50 years and you weren't given the courtesy of being

told that you were dropped or why you were dropped)" .

These are pertinent tidbits of information which should have

been given to the musician before the event in question, and

most certainly, not after the fact.  This should occur merely out

of respect and common courtesy.  And certainly, no information

should be held in secrecy;  All information should be

communicated to the musician personally and not to persons

subservient to them.  This avoids the "he said - she said catastrophe",

and this would prevent a select group within the church

from having someone different to play for their service and

from having secretly arranged rehearsals with the

Pastor's knowledge and consent, and ultimately leaving the

current musician in the dark.  There should be no situation where

either the Pastor or some other person should have to avoid

answering to or confronting the Minister of Music (for the sheer pleasure

of maintaining secrecy).  Finally, to the current musician's surprise,

after the fact, the entire secret plan was orchestrated with

the Pastor's full knowledge and consent to curtail or exclude

the current musician until after the event.  And after I had

successfully saved the choir and the Pastor from the

anticipated embarrassment, after surprisingly realizing that

the expected musician wasn't going to show, all I received that night

after closing the service was a  slow, hesitant and shameful display

of a thank you and not any form of an apology from the Pastor,

nor from the other individuals which were involved

initially with the shameful, ill advised scheme designed

to eliminate me from the equation;

They couldn't even look me in the face, for they knew that I

wasn't at all pleased with the uncovering of their failed plan;

They knew that I knew that fowl play and underhandedness

was the name of the performance against me -- and for what reason

for God's sake?  If there was a question of whether

or not I would have been qualified to play or perform

for a specific service, As Minister of Music, I deserved

the entitlement of having been informed!  And If I did not

meet the standard of being a qualified musician, then I should have

been fired for not being able to master my craft, but being an unqualified

musician or inept in my craft was certainly not the problem (admittedly).

Such disrespect, underhandedness,

and conspiring against hired servants on a collaborative

team or click effort within our ministries

by employing deceitfulness and purposeful omission of facts to

create confusion and unnecessary, questionable or hurt

feelings, most definitely has to be excluded from the auspices

of our churches.  And certainly, no Pastor should find

himself guilty of perpetrating such underhanded manipulations,

or of being personally involved in such petty, conflicting, and

unhealthy (not to mention incorporating unsavory wilds of the

devil) "relationships" to his Minister Of Music, worship leaders,

or ministry leaders of any magnitude.  Since I certainly experienced

all of the above, and much more, my sentiments concur with

the teachings of Mr. Kevin Bond wholeheartedly.  For purposes

of growth and harmony within ministries, respect and change

of tactics and attitudes has to take place to ensure

healthy relationships among the workers in the vineyard.

Pastor's, Ministers of Music, Worship Leaders:

Do you recognize the importance of having a music department

that is synchronized with the teaching and vision of the church?

Are you yearning for the leaders who can embrace the vision

of the ministry to the Worship and the Arts department?

Click on us to surf to the top or continue to scroll downward

How much time and training are you devoting to the improvement

of your music department?  Again, in my personal experience,

as Minister of Music, there was always insufficient rehearsal time.

Our rehearsal time was always quite limited or restricted,

and often cancelled by the Pastor leaving the choir the opportunity

to rehearse no more than once or twice out of a month, if that.  It is even more

depressing, when your rehearsal time is slightly extended at the expense

of reducing the inspirational church service time to an hour or slightly

more;  This is not the most expedient sacrificial compromise!

You're defeating one purpose in order to unrealistically attempt to patch

up another -- all the time, missing the mark!

Do you have a system in place to measure the rate of growth and success

within the department?

Have you often wondered why the apparent growth of your

department/church is neutralized by the exodus of gifted, dedicated,

responsible, discouraged and misused people from the

department/church?

If you've pondered any of these questions and would like solid answers

to these questions, and more, contact Kevin Bond today to

schedule a workshop for your church!

~7} Head Officials Of  The C. O. G. I. C.

By now, everyone is fully aware of the fact that Bishop Charles E. Blake

won a full term as the Presiding Bishop Of The Church Of God In Christ

during the National Convocation in Memphis, TN - 2008.

Bishop Blake, who is in the center of the above photo had been

serving the remainder of the Late Bishop G. E. Patterson's

preceding Bishop Patterson's death.  We, The Bishop

Christopher C. Owens Memorial Foundation feel confident that

Bishop Blake's very competent leadership for The Church Of

God In Christ Denomination will continue to excel during this

current 4 year term.

You may desire to check with the official C. O. G. I. C. web site,

which may be easily accessed from the Memorial Home

Page of this web site, to receive the entire listing of the names

of those elected as the new general board, the general secretary,

the financial secretary, and the treasurer and trustee boards respectively, by

the over 3,800 delegates who were members of the general assembly.

To emphasize Bishop Blake's personal and denominational slogans

which have been set forth as an excellent bench mark for every corporate

church body and individual saint to emulate for now and the future,

the Memorial Foundation has decided to banner these vital slogans on

a continual basis.  Hopefully, these themes will serve as a constant

reminder and incentive for us to not only rise to the

clarion call of the National Church, but also to promote

this as an imperative task to vigorously impose God's command

to become a fervent worker and disciple in His vineyard.

In the process of obediently adhering to Bishop Blake's plea,

we will most assuredly become our brother's keeper as we

promulgate salvation for humanity!

It is appropriate for us to include here that if you are not

"Saved or Born Again", we're encouraging you to make it a personal

priority to ultimately surf to the "Salvation Plan Page" before you exit

this web site! Please subscribe to this suggestion.

 As you know, the C. O. G. I. C. is the 4th largest Protestant (I prefer

to say Pentecostal) religious denomination in the United States

with an estimated membership above 6.5 million members.

By incorporating  these slogans into our hearts, and actively

accomplishing the objectives of the slogans, we should also anticipate

millions of new converts, along with an increased

National denominational membership.

Be Blessed As You Comply With Our Church Slogans!

National Slogan for 2009 (Theme Of C. O. G. I. C. ):

All Things, All People, All Godly Strategies

To Advance The Agenda God Has For The Saints:

To Win Souls And Disciple People Of

Every Nationality
